Clary continues to struggle with the new Shadowhunter order as Jace is being held in The City of Bones with an unknown fate, and all suspicion in the Shadowhunter world continues to rest on Valentine’s daughter. When duty calls, Clary gets a little reprieve from the family drama as she helps Alec and Isabelle hunt down a powerful demon. But what starts out as a routine mission quickly puts the Institute on high alert, and what happens next will change everything for the Shadowhunters and their Downworlder friends.
Meanwhile, Jocelyn has a proposition for Clary as Raphael and Simon ramp up their hunt for Camille.
Day of Wrath:
I don’t really know how to review Day of Wrath. So if you haven’t watched it. Go and then come back, because there is going to be spoilers. I don’t think I can talk about without giving too much away.
I found out what happened in this episode before I was able to watch it. It doesn’t upload to Netflicks until about 7.30pm here in Australia – so it’s a good 6 hours or so after airing the US. I normally don’t go on my timeline during this time. After a couple of hours, I thought I was safe – but I wasn’t. To say that I was disappointed in the outcome would be an understatement. I am all good for changes, they don’t bother me as much in the TV series, but the death of this character has changed – everything.
Also in this episode, Jace (Dominic Sherwood) is be held in the City of Bones where nothing is as it seems and he is being haunted by his decision. Izzy (Emeraude Toubia), Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Alec (Matthew Daddario) are on the hunt for a demon that is killing both mundanes and shadowhunters alike.
Death
I’ve been thinking since last night, what could possible change, what could they do to keep this person alive and I have no idea. Could this all be a dream or a trick. I just don’t know what to think. If this was a different series, that wasn’t based on books (let alone one of my favourite series) then this death wouldn’t bother me. It’s there for tension, for complications.
And although the death is shocking – even to those who have been spoiled. It wasn’t overly emotional. I was prepared for my heart to be pulled out of my chest – however, it stopped half way. I have a feeling next week, it will really catch up to the characters and it will hit them even more
City of Bones
We are taken back into the City of Bones in Day of Wrath. The City of Bones feels right. It’s even more creepy than I could imagine. The Silent brothers are back, creepier than ever. The audience is able to delve deeper into the City of Bones as see just where the Clave keep their prisoners.
The audience gets a sense that Jace is struggling to come to terms with everything that has happened. The Mortal sword is also used in this episode and I thought that it was brilliant. The way that everything tied together.
Family
Throughout the series, there has been a sense of family blood or not and in Day of Wrath, this notion shines. Izzy, Alec and Jace have shown that they care about each other throughout the series. It’s of one the things that they have done perfectly. There is this moment at the end of the episode – it was evoking and I loved it.
Another one that surprised me by working well, was the sense of family between Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) and Raphael (David Castro). It was sweet actually.
Things are really building up with Simon (Alberto Rosende) and his mum and it’s crash soon. I can feel it. It needs to happen, though. They need to fall out. It contributes to who Simon is for the rest of the series.
Magnus + Alec
There is a brief Magnus and Alec moment in this weeks episode and I am begging for more. They are adorable together and I just want to see all the cuteness. obvious, bad things will need to happen. But yes, please continue with everything to do with these two.
Love Triangle
Let’s talk love triangle now. If you have have been here long enough you know I hate love triangles – unless I know how they will work out. And the love triangle from the books is about to show and I am so excited. It’s going to cause even more tension. Distance. And just everything in between. The look on Jace’s face!
What’s to Come?
I have no idea what to going to happen next! I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. I knew when going into this series, that they were going to change things. It’s not going to be word for word. Yet, it still doesn’t change that horrible feeling and things being different. Let’s just see what next week brings.
