Divergent Movie Review *Spoiler Free*
So on Monday I went to an Advance Screening of Divergent and starting writing this review. I cannot contain how excited I was going in and lets just say I was more excited when I come out.
I LOVED Divergent. It was brilliant. Not only does it appeal to teens, but adults as well. It was action packed with the perfect hint of romance that everyone loves.
The setting and the set were amazing. I cannot explain how much I loved it. It was so much like I pictured it to be, though I did imagine the Dauntless pit to be a little darker, but other than that. How all the buildings were demolished…amazing. (I am going to use the word amazing a lot in this review, sorry)
I actually really liked Shailene Woodley as Tris. I thought that she may be too quite, have s soft voice that Tris doesn’t have, but she surprised me. I love Shailene, don’t get me wrong. I loved watching in her in Secret Life of an America Teenager, but I didn’t know if she could pull off the ‘bad ass’ personality of Tris. She really was fantastic.
Theo James as Four…can I die right now. He was amazing. He had a perfect American accent. I was like gobsmacked at how I couldn’t hear his English accent at all since he has a pretty strong accent. His fighting skills were so good. The way he presented himself as instructor Four to the Four we see with Tris, was brilliant.
I loved all the other side characters as well. Everyone was perfect for the role they played.
The book to movie adaptation part… I think it was a really good book to movie adaptation. There were all those key scenes and characters. The mood I felt was so much like the book. The setting. I did have a few scenes that I wanted in the movie but sadly they weren’t.
I wish they would have enhanced the friendship between Tris and Al, to add the effect I think it had in the book when he betrays her.
The ending. I loved the ending more in the movie then I did in the book. I felt very disconnected with the characters in Divergent book but in the movie I did feel more of the connection with I think helped a lot with the ending sequence.
The fighting elements of the whole movie were epic. I loved them. I love fighting scenes in movies. I love all action movies. But this ending was so good and you cannot take your eyes off the screen for even a second as you could miss something.
I also loved the costumes and how you could tell the difference between each faction by the way they dress, the way that they present themselves, and just everything.
I really did enjoy the movie a lot. I think that both fans and non fans will really enjoy this movie. I know that out of the 4 other people I went with, only one had read the book and the other 3 want to read the books after watching the movie and 2 of them don’t like to read.
Overall it was a really enjoyable, action packed (somewhat) thriller.
Divergent is now in cinemas in Australia and New Zealand.
