No last names. No life stories. Those were the rules.

Once upon a time a cocky, copper-haired tourist sauntered into Zara’s bar. And even though she knew better, Zara indulged in a cure for the small-town blues. It was supposed to be an uncomplicated fling—a few sizzling weeks before he went back to his life, and she moved on.

Until an accidental pregnancy changed her life.

Two years later, she’s made peace with the notion that Dave No-Last-Name will never be found. Until one summer day when he walks into her coffee shop, leveling her with the same hot smile that always renders her defenseless.

Dave Beringer has never forgotten the intense month he spent with prickly Zara. Their nights together were the first true intimacy he’d ever experienced. But the discovery of his child is the shock of a lifetime, and his ugly past puts relationships and family out of reach.

Or does it? Vermont’s countryside has a way of nurturing even tortured souls. The fields and the orchards—and hard-won love—are Bountiful.

    Bountiful:

I received an e-arc of Bountiful by Sarina Bowen in exchange for an honest review.  This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about the book.

For the last year I have been reading; 1. More Romance and 2. More Sarina Bowen. So when I was given the change to read an early copy of Bountiful – I took it.  I read the first 3 books in the ‘True North’ series a couple of months ago and really fell in love with the characters. And with doing that I was introduced to Zara – and her baby. It had been a mystery the whole series who the father was – and we finally found out.

Bountiful follows Zara, the mother of the beautiful little redhead girl, who fell pregnant after a fling – and she didn’t tell anyone who the father was. But it wasn’t like she knew his name. It’s been two years and Zara is living the life of a single mother – until Dave comes into her life. Dave hasn’t forgotten about Zara and when he finds his way back to her town – Dave is hoping that she is still there. What he didn’t know is that he had a daughter waiting for him too.

Throughout this series, I was dying to find out who the father was of Zara’s daughter and gosh did it make this book interesting. I really enjoy Zara both as a protagonist and as a mother. The reader is able to see her through other character eyes before this – and now finally the story is told through her.

I felt that Zara really grew throughout Bountiful. At the start, she is both hesitate with Dave being back and letting him into their lives. But she also has some strong feelings for him. What I loved about Zara was that she did care so much about her daughter – and she was first.

I have a love-hate relationship with Dave. For the most part, I really enjoyed him. But there were things that just didn’t sit right with me throughout the novel. It took quite a while for Dave to get used to the idea that he had a daughter, but as Bountiful went on – the reader is able to see his thoughts and feelings change.

Bountiful really explores the notion of family and I loved seeing Zara and Dave come together and show this to their daughter. Obvious it’s hard, a fling turning into something more. But I liked the way that Sarina Bowen dealt with it. In saying that, I did wish I got more scenes with the three of them together.

There was no denying that Zara and Dave had a connection. And with the way that Sarina structured the book out – it did emphasise that. The reader is able to see their feelings before, and then take us two years later and see what has changed between them.

I also really enjoyed seeing all the characters that we have come to know and love. It’s really nice having a book where everyone that was once hurt, be happy. They are as much of Zara’s family as those that are blood-related to her.

Speaking of Zara’s family, I had many laughs and angry spiral through me when her family was about. There was some good eggs – and some bad ones. But, I liked seeing the different reactions of those that are related to her.

Overall, Bountiful is about family, friendship, and love. It explores family and what you have to give up for it. Love and how it can change the way you look at life. Zara and Dave come together to not only look after their daughter but themselves. If you want a beautiful read that focuses on family, new parents and some sexy time – then this book is for you. It’s fun, heartbreaking and warms your inside all at the same time.

Book Review: Fireblood by Elly Blake

Against all odds, Ruby has defeated the villainous Frost King and melted his throne of ice. But the bloodthirsty Minax that was trapped inside is now haunting her kingdom and everyone she loves. The answers to its demise may lie to the south in Sudesia, the land of the Firebloods, and a country that holds the secrets to Ruby’s powers and past….

Despite warnings from her beloved Arcus, Ruby accompanies a roguish Fireblood named Kai to Sudesia, where she must master her control of fire in a series of trials to gain the trust of the suspicious Fireblood queen. Only then can she hope to access the knowledge that could defeat the rampaging Minax – which grows closer every moment. But as sparks fly in her moments alone with Kai, how can Ruby decide whom to trust? The fate of both kingdoms is now in her hands.

    Fireblood:

I received a free copy of Fireblood by Elly Blake from Hachette Australia in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about the book.

This review will contain spoilers from Frostblood; book 1 in the saga.

I started off the year right with Frostblood and when I found out that book 2 was coming out a couple months later – I was so excited. And while I didn’t love Fireblood as much as book 1. I still really enjoyed it.

Fireblood picks up not long after we left Frostblood. We see that Ruby is really struggling with her time at the Frost court. The people of the court don’t like her, she can’t spend the time she wants to with Arcus, and she is struggling with the powers within her. But when she finds out there is a way to stop the Minax – she goes out to find it. Even if it means leaving Arcus behind.

Accompanying Ruby on this trip to Sudesia, is a Fireblood named Kai. But when she must enter a series of life or death trails to gain the trust of the Fireblood Queen – things start to get heated.

Ruby really grew throughout Fireblood, which is one of my favourite things to see in a novel. When character development is the pinnacle of the story. While at the start of the novel and even in the first book, Ruby is really struggling with who she is. But throughout Fireblood we start to see her accept that.  There were things that Ruby did throughout Fireblood that really annoyed me to bits, but I liked to see her learn from them.

I hated that we did get to see much of Arcus in Fireblood. He was one of my favourite characters in Frostblood, and I wanted to see how he was dealing with being King. Although we did see some of that, he was out for most of the book. In saying that I did like what we did see. I find that Arcus wears his heart on his sleeve, and in Fireblood we see that. The reader is able to see how much he cares for both Ruby and his people. We see the hard decisions that a King has to go through.

Kai – what can I say. I wasn’t the biggest fan of him. I felt that he was too up himself, that he believed that he deserved the world. While reading Fireblood I really wanted to like him, but I just could not do it. I liked the strength that he gave Ruby, the lessons that he taught her. I liked that he made Ruby believe in herself. But, I really don’t care what happens to him in the long run.

I went into Fireblood believing that there was going to be a love triangle – and while it wasn’t really the way – it was still there. If you know me well, I hate love triangles, there aren’t many books with them that I end up loving. So when I read the synopsis for Fireblood, I was really upset. However, it wasn’t as strong as I expected. Which made me very happy.

Yes, Ruby and Kai had a connection, because he is one of the first Fireblood that Ruby has really seen and connected with. She is able to learn so much about her powers, and herself. But, I felt that he cared more about himself than others.

Ruby and Arcus had some really hard times in Fireblood and I hope that they continue to be there for one another in Nightblood. I love their connection and how much they do care about one another.

I feel in love with the world of Elly Blake when I began Frostblood, but we really get to find more about the world in Fireblood. All the info wasn’t dumped on us at the one time, it was slowly weaved throughout the book. Not only were there things that Ruby knew, but she also learnt so much. And it was great to learn that along with her.

Overall, I really enjoyed Fireblood by Elly Blake. I was engaged and turning page after page. I didn’t know what was going to happen next most of the time – which was fantastic. Fireblood explores falling in love, fighting for who you are and believing in yourself. It explores coming-of-age, finding your place and believing in what you. Fireblood takes you a journey and I really don’t want it to stop.

The first time I lay eyes on Callan Walker, I know he’ll be trouble. With his smug grin, hot Aussie accent and thousand dollar shoes, he’s just the kind of rich guy who always gets what he wants.

And he wants two things: a night of sin, and my cooperation as he outmaneuvers his powerful mother to take control of his uncle’s estate.

I can’t afford either one. I’m the only thing standing between my little sister and the foster care system. He may have money and charm on his side, but I have something even more powerful — pure desperation. This temp job at his mother’s company can become a full-time job for me. It has to.

But when Callan’s eyes rake over my body, sometimes I forget my obligations. His piercing gaze finds the fun, optimistic girl I used to be and not the tired person I’ve become.

And it works–if only for a moment. Our night together was a mistake. I can’t afford to get sucked into his high-powered family’s treachery. But the closer I get to Callan, the more layers I find beneath those expensive clothes. Though I can’t forget this is temporary. He’s temporary. I have too much to lose.

Too bad my foolish heart didn’t get the memo…

    Temporary:

I received an e-arc of Temporary by Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings of the book.

If you have been following me the last year, I’ve started making my way through Sarina Bowen’s books and I’ve really been enjoying them overall. So when I saw that she was bringing a new book out, with an Aussie taking the lead. I needed it.

Temporary follows two very different people. Not only from opposite sides of the world but also on the social ladder. Grace is the sole carer of her younger sister and will do anything to help them survive. Now in a temp job, she knows that one step out of line could risk her losing her sister – for good. While Callan has everything that could have asked for – except a family. Business and money are what he knows, but when his uncle dies he wants to make sure that he is remembered. They are on two different sides, but they can’t stop the chemistry that runs between them.

Grace was an easy protagonist to get along with. I loved her passion and her drive to keep her sister, while she tries her best to make sure she is happy. I felt that times she was very on edge, while I understood why it really did create a lot of tension in her life. Grace is very smart, but she does let her emotions get the better of her, and that did hinder my like for the book.

Callan wasn’t the easiest protagonist to get along with at times, but as the novel went on, I really got to like him. I loved his passion to do what ever he could for his uncle. I felt that at times he didn’t understand Grace’s situation before it was too late.

Like I said, Grace and Callan are total opposites. But when they were together, they brought out the best in one another. At the start, it was slow burning, with both Grace and Callan hesitant of one another. Nevertheless, as they got to know each other, they become comfortable. And from there it was pretty fast.

One of my favorite things about Temporary was that while it was co-written, I was unable to tell who was writing what. It flowed seamlessly and worked to the T. I’ve read both Sarina’s solo and co-written work, so I thought I had a grasp of her writing style. However, it just worked so well in Temporary, with alone putting a smile on my face. I felt that Callan’s Australian side was honest and very well done.

In saying that I did feel that at times Temporary was a little too long. I thought there could have been a good amount of pages cut. Some scenes were long winded and just interrupted the flow of the novel.

The notion of family is always big to me in novels and throughout Temporary we were able to see the good, and the bad. I loved the relationship between Grace and her sister that she is the sole carer of.  While it was a struggle at times, I loved seeing how much they cared for one another and would do anything for each other.

Then we had Callan and his family. I liked the contrast of the two families and one big notion of life comes to mind, ‘money isn’t everything.’ I think that really stood out between the different dynamics of these two families.  And let’s just say that his mother is a right piece of work.

Overall, Temporary is a heartwarming read that explores the notion of family, trust and learning to find your feet. With a bubbling relationship, a great friendship, and heartache, this books took me on a ride. If you are in for a little love, heartbreak and some beautiful moments, then this one is for you.

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
