Welcome, 2017! Last week I was here wishing you a Merry Christmas and now it’s time to wish you a Happy New Year. I can’t believe how quickly 2016 went. It was like I was here yesterday writing this new years posts.
2016 has been a hell of a year. I started my second year of uni, Angel Reads was going well and I was feeling good. And I was ready to read all the books coming out in the year.
Reading for 2016 wasn’t the best year 5-star wise. I only have 14 that were 5 stars or close, while I read about 100. It’s the most that I have read in a really long time, and I loved reading so much. I just wish that I had more that I loved.
This year also had some ups and downs both personally and YA community wise. I managed to graduate from my first uni course, get into another one and do my first internship. The internship was incredible – I was in a publishing house working with publicity and marketing. Not only did I have an amazing time, it also cemented that publicity in the field that I want to work in. I can’t wait to do more internships and hopefully in the future work here, in the publishing industry.
The community this year has been hard sometimes, there has been lots of drama and plenty of misunderstandings. I think that we do need to talk about the issues that arise in the community. But I also believe that social can be hard to get issues across. I hope that 2017 isn’t surrounded my fights that break out every day.
Lastly, I would love to thank YOU. 2016 has been a great year for me here at Angel Reads, I have loved every minute of it. Thank you to my followers who have been here, commented on my posts, and talk to me on twitter.

I just wanted to come on and say a quick Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays. This is one of my favourite times of the year. I love it because I get to spend it all with family. Christmas is a big thing for my family. Christmas Eve is at our house, where we all open our gifts. Then on Christmas day, we got to both sets of Grandparents and have lunch/dinner with them and their sides of the family.
I really hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. I hope that you get everything that you want and get to spend some time with your family. To those that don’t have any family to spend it with, remember that I am thinking of you. And that this bookish community is also your family and we are always here. Nevertheless, I hope that you get all the books that you want and have some time to sit down and read these holidays.
If you want to talk I will be on twitter so you can always tweet me. Find me at @angel_reads
Diversity is something I always strive to see in YA. Diversity is something that we need and something that we want. So today I am announcing something special and quite close to me. It’s called Disability Diaries, it’s a week long feature of reviews, recommendations and even personal posts. Basically, it’s everything and anything to do with disabilities and trying to show it’s portrayal in books.
Joining me will be Ely @ Tea and Titles, Cee Arr @ Diary of a Reading Addict, Dina @ Dinasoaur, Jolien @ The Fictional Reader, and Lara @ Another Teen Reader.
Recently for University, I did a research essay on Diversity in YA and through my research, I found that disabilities aren’t that common. This is quite dishearting that such comma things are not present in what we read today. I want to be able to spread the awareness of disabilities and share more of it in YA. Create diversity in what we see and how it is portrayed.
Disability Diaries will run from 14th to the 21st of January 2017. If you would love to join in on the conversation then please fill in the google form below. You don’t have to sign up, to enjoy our posts. But if you’d like to contribute your own posts during the event, it means we can share your posts much easier. We will be chatting all over on twitter about this – so don’t forever to follow us.
This feature is going to be exciting and a lot of fun. It’s going to be interesting, and important week. Nevertheless, please if you have any questions you can ask me here or even on twitter. You can find me on twitter at @angel_reads, Facebook, instagram, tumblr and Goodreads. You can also follow Angel Reads on Bloglovin and via email (in the sidebar)
