Mea Maxima Culpa:
I am so glad Shadowhunters is back. It’s been a long couple of months without having it to watch every Tuesday night with the family. Don’t forget to check out my reviews of the Season 2A.
The first half of season 2 was crazy, there were unexpected deaths and story lines that had me wanting more and the premier of 2B was not a disappointment.
Mea Maxima Culpa starts only a few days after the end of 2A and everything is not going right. Luke to having trouble with his pack, there is a new demon on the lose and there is still no sign of the mortal cup or soul sword. Jace is still holding everything in after finding out Clary is not his sister and Clary and Simon finally has some peace to have some time to themselves.
Isabelle is still having a lot of trouble with her addiction and while trying to find some blood she runs into a new character, that we all love to hate.
Jace
There was a big focus on Jace in Mea Maxima Culpa. His struggling coming to terms that he has angel blood, finding out that Clary isn’t his sister and the pressure trying to find two of the mortal instruments.
We really got to see a different side of Jace in this episode and I loved seeing it. Up until now, the audience didn’t really get to see his emotions come through. But his walls break and we get to see a softer side of Jace.
There is this lovely scene at the start of Mea Maxima Culpa with Alec while they are training together. And it was just so good! The audience was really able to see their parabatai bond come through and I was smiling throughout.
Clary + Simon
I saw a lot on twitter before the episode about how they are upset that Clary and Simon are together. I think everyone has forgotten that they were together for a little bit. I don’t even mind at all.
They were adorable together in the scenes that they had. The way that I can describe these two is very sweet. They know each other so well, that they are able to come together easily. I know that they won’t be together much long – probably by the end of this season. But, it’s still nice to see some normal in this world.
Luke and his pack
We see in this episode that Luke is starting to lose the control of his pack and I know that there is more to come. We know that the downworlders are going to fight back soon and this is only the start. I just hope that Luke doesn’t lose the pack.
Demon on the loose
I do love the inclusion of this. We need to have something that is going to cause more havoc, it’s just the way that it works. I am really excited to see what this storyline brings, especially with how the episode ended. It’s going to be crazy and fun all at the same time.
I adored the scene with Luke at a murder scene. He is this big time cop, and I loved this scene with his new partner. Cracked me up.
Overall
I really enjoyed Mea Maxima Culpa. It was a great way to start mid-season. We know that there is more to come and it’s just waiting there. I am so excited to see more of Sebastian and see what they are going to do with him and his storyline. I think that we are all going to be on the edge of our seats soon.
