Dicussion: Reading on Wattpad

Dicussion: Reading on Wattpad

I like reading on Wattpad. There I said it, it’s out. I am not ashamed that I do, but I never really talk about it. I have been thinking about this lately, I am a book reviewer who reads books on Wattpad.

If you don’t know what, what Wattpad is, it’s a website where you can post your novels/short stories/really whatever you want. But with social aspects, you can vote on stories, comment, add to your libraries and connect with authors in ways that you cannot do with traditional published and even self-published authors.

wattpad

I personally think that Wattpad is a pretty amazing website, there are some incredible stories on there, and some that I wish were published because they are that good.

There are many aspects of Wattpad that are really good. One of those is that you get to read the novels as they are written. On Wattpad, you upload chapter by chapter. I like seeing how an author can create a story as they go, how they work with loopholes, how they fix those loopholes.  It’s interesting, how someone can write chapter upload it and then write the next chapter and so on.

It is also really easy to navigate and use. You can use both your laptop and the mobile app and they are in-sync with each other.  You get notifications when you a story is updated if it’s in your library or you follow the author.

Also, if you have opened the story on your phone or it’s in your library – you can read it offline on the app.

There are also some stories that have been picked up for publishing – some that have done quite well.

afterfall

Angelfall by Susan Ee and the After series by Anna Todd – were both picked up and traditionally published and there are many more.

I find that contemporary is better written on Wattpad simply because there is no real need for world building. I do have some favourites though, these two writers are quite good.

bootfriend

Knightsrachel: Two of my favourite stories from her are My Brothers Best Friend and Jefferson Lake. These two have both been finished so if you want to read it all – you can.

Another writer that I really like is GinaWriter, her novel Boot Camp – which is now being published by Pulse.

Another thing that I like about Wattpad is that you get to see people deal with the same things in a different way in one place and see how people react to it.

One thing about Wattpad that I know I would like if I was posting on there is the feedback. You get feedback on every chapter and for a writer who wants to be published, it’s really good. – sometimes the feedback is upsetting, but that is what a writer has to deal with.

With all these good things there are some con’s about Wattpad.

There are some horribly written books. Like really bad that I want to cry about. The way I go about choosing a book is I read the synopsis and then the first chapter – that normally tells me if I want to continue reading. Sometimes I do this multiple times before I find a book that I want to read.

Some are not edited at all, and those are the books that I want to just rip apart – but I don’t because I know that is what you sometimes get when reading books on Wattpad.

Overall, I really do enjoy reading books on Wattpad. It is a different experience, but always fun. I don’t like when people say that because they are not ‘published’ stories or that they are not well written – yes some are, however there are some amazing stories on there that are very much publishable.

Do you read on Wattpad? What are some of your favourite stories on Wattpad? Will, do you read on Wattpad? Let’s Chat.

Yayyy I like wattpad!! I confess to not networking very much on it though, just because I have sooo many physical books to read already I don’t have the TIME to spend more on wattpad. I do like that you get feedback! But tbh, I think feedback from so many people can be a bit dangerous. You have to learn how to sort through it. ;D Are you going to be posting any stories on there?

I’m pretty new to Wattpad but I want to spend some time there and do some reading- hopefully find some new favorites or at least good stories. I know at least one blogger who is currently writing there and I’m hoping to get caught up with her stuff soon. Nice post!

I don’t read on wattpad for two reasons:
    1) Too many other books to read
    2) I tried reading Cait’s (paperfury) story on wattpad and first it told me to get an account and then it told me that every username I tried was already taken (after performing a user search, I established that none of them had been taken). So I’m currently still too mad at it to try again.

My sister reads on wattpad, though, and she loves it. And as someone who used to use fictionpress.net (which is similar to wattpad), I can definitely see why people like it.

I confess, I’m not a Wattpad fan. I used to be, back when I was on Inkpop and that shut down and Wattpad was the only other alternative. It had a fairly good set up for stories and getting feedback in the community forums, awesome creative people who would help you design a cover etc.

However, I’d never (I’ll eat my words one day, I know!) use Wattpad now. While I love the concept of it, I think it’s incredibly flawed and badly patrolled by the administration of the site. It’s full (in my opinion) of badly written fanfiction and teenagers that are writing (and not even properly) things that many may not fully understand the concept or consequences of. I can’t even begin to say how many “1D bought me as their sex slave” stories I’ve seen on there!

And I guess, I don’t know, maybe I felt disheartened with Wattpad? I had a couple of stories up there a few years ago, taken down now, but I worked so hard to try and get it out there, get views and get comments, made my work the best it could be, and wasn’t really getting anywhere in the shadows of poorly written stories with millions of views.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s benefits of Wattpad, and I think more and more people are starting to see that, so hopefully that means a shift in the way the website is used, and I’m glad that people who necessarily didn’t know how to express themselves now can, and are getting recognition for it. I’ve just seen the unglamorous side to Wattpad and I don’t like it at all.

    Hello 🙂
I also love Wattpad, especially for Neymar + Pretty Little Liars fanfictions, they are so good. But I also read contemporaries there, I read My Brother’s Best Friend and I loved it, it was really cute. I don’t know why people wouldn’t like Wattpad.
Also, it’s very convenient because it’s on your phone. Although I have Kindle, I don’t take my Kindle or books with me all the time, but I always have my phone with me.

I just read my first Wattpad book – Cait’s The Dead Boy and the Paper Cut (but it seems to be gone now!). I loved being able to comment on the book, though – that was a really fun aspect of Wattpad that I hadn’t realized.

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

What was your favourite book that you read in April?

IT’S RACE WEEK! 🏎️ If you didn’t know al IT’S RACE WEEK! 🏎️

If you didn’t know already I love F1, have ever since I was younger and decided that this year it would be fun to combined my love for F1 and reading together. 📚

After a week off we are back at it. We are in Miami this week’s and things are only just heating up. This week I’m reading Falling Off the Cliff Kanitha P.

…

Formula 1 legend in the making and rising star Thiago Valencia is chasing redemption as well as his second World Champion title. With a tarnished reputation and an undetermined future in F1 that hangs by a terribly loose thread, he can’t afford to lose his seat. Thiago is ready to do anything to redeem himself and erase his past mistakes. When a mysterious woman intrudes on his private party in Monte Carlo, he is certain the universe has brought his polar opposite into his life as salvation. He is sunshine, she is moonlight; he is a bright star and she is a moonbeam.

Destiny takes the wheel, steering Kamari into Thiago’s orbit, but her open disdain and closely guarded heart warn her to stay away. Enchanted by her charms, Thiago is intent on melting her freezing barriers and tearing down the walls shielding her heart.

When Kamari agrees to help him save his future by being his fake girlfriend, the unexpected happens, triggered by a game of lies, secrets and desire.

As they plunge towards the finish line, the race veers offtrack and neither of them are ready to fall off the cliff.
…

How Race Week Reads Will Work

On Monday of race week I’ll announce the book I’ll be reading for the week, then throughout the week I’ll be posting stories and my thoughts. And then on Sunday, race day my review and final thoughts will go up.

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
